Herbert W. Thompson, Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus - Biology
Dr. Herbert W. Thompson served Bethune-Cookman University for 37 years as Professor of Biology, Dean, and leader of key programs like the Health Careers Opportunity Program. A BCU alum with a Ph.D. in Biology, he advanced STEM education, led curriculum reform, and secured research funding to support student success. Recognized as a White House Champion of Change, he remains a dedicated mentor and active community leader.

Thometta Cozart
Multicultural Outreach & Health Equity Senior Director
Thometta Cozart is a public health leader with nearly 20 years of experience in health communications, currently serving as Senior Director at the Epilepsy Foundation. She helped accredit BCU’s Public Health Program, led national health equity initiatives, and teaches at multiple universities. Her award-winning work focuses on reducing health disparities and promoting inclusive outreach.

Mrs. Claudia Patrice Fontaine
Masters in Nursing with a Specialty in Education (MSN-Ed)
Claudia Patrice Fontaine, a Philadelphia native and Bethune-Cookman alum, is a tenured nursing professor with a background in Gerontology and Nursing, and a Master’s in Nursing Education. A former hospital RN, she now mentors future nurses and is deeply committed to community service and empowering others. Recognized with several leadership and service awards, Claudia is known for her warmth, humor, and favorite motto: “Wash your hands.”

Chloe Singleton
Family Nurse Practitioner
Chloe Singleton, a Daytona Beach native, is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Clinical Director of a new perinatal health center opening in Spring 2025. She specializes in Women’s Health, working alongside OB/GYN teams to provide prenatal, postpartum, and gynecological care, and actively contributes to community health through F.I.M.R. A devoted wife and mother of two, Chloe is pursuing her Doctorate in Nursing Practice and is known not only for her dedication to healthcare but also for her infectious humor and vibrant personality.

Dr. Sadie B. McConner is a respected healthcare professional with advanced degrees in public health and podiatric medicine, along with certifications in areas like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She has received multiple awards for her leadership in health equity, spoken at national events, and contributed to academic research. As founder of two organizations, she remains active in community work and professional associations, while also being a proud mother and grandmother.

Harriett Clary-Charity

Born in Quincy, FL, this proud James A. Shanks High alumna and Bethune-Cookman graduate has spent over 40 years in healthcare as a nationally licensed Medical Technologist. She has served in all six major lab disciplines and held roles such as Lab Director, Program Director, and Educator. Now nearing retirement, she continues to serve in emergency medicine in Jacksonville, FL, dedicated to saving lives and supporting her community.

Janae Ponder, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Janae Ponder, a Fort Lauderdale native, is a dedicated mental health clinician and founder of Life-Spire Counseling Services in Deltona, FL, providing culturally grounded care, especially for BIPOC communities. Through her nonprofit, she expands access to therapy, training, and mental health education for underserved populations. A wife, mother, and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Janae is a compassionate advocate for healing, empowerment, and community wellness.
